A man has denied murdering a mum-of-three found dead in a Leasowe flat.

Police launched a murder investigation after Helen Joy’s body was discovered inside the home on Twickenham Drive on February 1.

The 54-year-old was sadly found shortly before 11am.

Kevin Ashton, 45, also of Twickenham Drive was charged with murdering the mum-of-three and appeared at Liverpool Crown Court today.

Ashton had short grey hair and glasses and was wearing a grey sweatshirt.

In his second crown court appearance the murder accused spoke only to plead not guilty to killing Helen Joy between January 28 and February 2.

The case was heard before Judge David Aubrey, QC and prosecuted by David McLaughlin, while Michael Scholes represented Ashton.

Ashton, who appeared on a video link from HMP Altcourse, is due to face a trial on October 4 at Liverpool Crown Court.

He was remanded in custody until his next appearance.

In a statement following her death Ms Joy’s son and daughters said they were “heartbroken”.
