On Wednesday, firefighters responded to the area of 40th Street and Greenway Road after a maintenance worker reported he walked into a backyard and found a woman unconscious in a pool, Keller said.
The first responders pulled the woman from the pool, but were unable to resuscitate her, Keller said.
The Phoenix Police Department has taken over the scene, according to Keller.
